Alternative and renewable sources of energy are just now getting to a point where we can actually begin to reap their benefits and are becoming more and more accessible to the general public. Because if this, it’s becoming far more important for us to understand the differences between myths and facts when it comes to these different types of energy resources. I’s really important to try and clear up any confusion there may be about them and what they are capable of and what their limitations might be at this time.
Below is a list of some of the different types of renewable resources and what they are and what they are used for:
Wind This is energy that uses large windmills or wind turbines to gather up the streams of wind that will then turn the blades that will then operate generators that will produce our electricity.Solar
There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Trying to decide the best way to provide power to an economy is a very difficult problem. Every energy source has it’s pros and cons. Many people believe that we as a society need to be weaned off from petroleum consumption completely. Even with new alternative sources are being developed, the energy problems doesn’t go away; they simply change.
The following factors must be considered when evaluating alternative energy sources.
Combustion vs. Non-combustion
Most of our current power sources produce energy through combustion processes (burning) that requires some kind of burn chamber, oxygen, and some type of exhaustion system. From the beginning, humans have burned wood for heat. The process was really simple: Make a large pile of wood, light it on fire, then hang out nearby to enjoy. With advances in technology, the combustion processes are much more efficient (for example, a new wood-burning stove is more than a hundred times more efficient than what an open fire is). No matter how efficient the processes have become, combustion processes are notorious causes for pollution.
While non-combustive processes, like nuclear and solar power, don’t have the exhaustive pollutants, they do have their own kinds of issues. For example, the photovoltaic (PV) panels used to harness solar energy require a lot of energy to make, and most of this energy comes from electrical power produced from coal combustion. Even though after a solar energy system is installed it produces no pollution, a lot of pollution is required to manufacture it. Other non-combustion energy sources that require a large amount of energy to manufacture the necessary equipment are wind and hydro-power.
The issues with raw materials
Raw materials are required by every energy plant, whether solar or wood stove. With solar energy, raw materials are free. Meticulously refined and manufactured uranium rods are the raw materials nuclear power plants need. Raw fuels have increasingly less to do with the total cost of an energy process. The biggest component in the cost/analysis equation is usually the expensive capital equipment required.
The energy refinement degree
In a crude fashion, heat is provided by wood stoves. High-grade electrical energy is produced by solar PV panels. Wind power produces high-grade electricity also. Heat is the end product desired in the case of the wood stove. The heat is very crude, but very effective. Electricity is very convenient and refined. Refining energy requires energy itself, and every energy consuming process needs a degree of energy refinement. Everyone would be better off if it were possible to create policies that favor less refined energy.
Current technology level
It can take quite a bit of time for a new technology to make it to the market. It takes quite a bit more time for those technologies to gain acceptance and to be used. People usually don’t discard the current system they used simply because a new technology is being developed. Their current system has to break down, or stop being economical for them to invest in the new technology.
Impacts on pollution and the environment
Every energy consuming and energy producing process leave some kind of residue on our planet. Not all alternative energy schemes are energy reducing wonders. Wood stove that burn inefficiently can be one of the biggest polluting energy sources, for example. There are many different types of problems that are caused by many different types of pollution.
Most people only care about decreasing their net costs for energy consumption. It is because of this that the government makes these options seem desirable by offering rebate, taxes, and other subsidies. Fossil fuels would never yield to alternatives if the government didn’t mandate these economic changes.
Since the government is leading the way for the alternative energy future, politics will play a huge role into what technologies become popular. Green politics is emerging as an influential and increasingly powerful component of every government operation.

Nowadays, many efforts are made towards saving the Earth and protecting it from pollutant agents and resources exploitation. The prognostics about the natural resources running low and the much discussed global warming led to the development of different strategies, consisting in the replacement of certain products or processes that have negative impact on the environment. Under these circumstances, alternative energy has gained popularity and is considered to be a real option for replacing fuels. The most known and used sources of alternative energy are the sun and the wind.
People who care about the environment and want to live in an ecologic and modern house are appealing more and more to special equipments that convert the solar power into energy. Using solar energy is not only innovative, but it is also free; once you have paid for the necessary equipment you will no longer have to pay for the energy you use. These equipments are becoming less and less expensive, so they will pay off for their costs in the first years after the installation.
Editor’s Note: Alternative energy is a thriving industry. Are you interested in alternative energy? Wouldn’t you want to learn more about solar energy training or solar panel training? If you answered “yes” to both questions, you may want to consider a career in the alternative energy industry. CleanEdison.com is a nationwide green training center headquartered in New York City with training centers across the US. Call them for free information: 888-513-3476
Solar panel technology is constantly improving, providing the necessary energy even in inappropriate weather conditions. Furthermore, the panels can be very easily and quickly installed.
Using the wind as a source of alternative energy is very common for farms and rural communities. They have a lot of benefits to get from using the wind power since they only need a few turbines which convert wind into energy and so, they have to support smaller costs.
On the other hand, when used at a large scale, wind power is quite an expensive type of renewable energy, because many wind turbines need to be built across the country to provide electricity, especially in the areas where the wind velocity is low. This raises the costs a lot, but eventually, after years have passed, the investment will definitely pay off. Expensive or not, renewable energy is really needed and will become a must in the next decades. Until then, great progress will be made in this direction and people would finally get to benefit from using alternative sources of energy in the comfort of their homes. Many people are starting to embrace alternative energy for obtaining free energy and supporting the Earth at the same time. This might turn into a trend, especially since the results are hopeful.

Many people are searching for alternative energy sources. The environment is becoming a focus of attention for many, and there are many things you can do to help reduce the carbon footprint you are leaving.
Solar energy is one of the many energy source alternatives that are gaining some attention. You can place solar panels on your home and help to reduce your electricity bill and the greenhouse gases you emit. Solar panels can be still expensive and this is still a somewhat new energy source. As time goes on, this source should become more affordable to the consumer.
Hydroelectricity is an energy alternative that is powered by falling water. This type of alternative energy can power entire cities, but this is also pretty costly. More research needs to be done to find alternative energy that is more affordable.
Wind energy is a great source of alternative energy.
Wind is very abundant and it does not cost anything. Wind is used to turn turbines and this is how electricity is created. This has proven to be an effective alternate source of energy.
It is of growing importance that everyone does what they can to help stop global warming and alternative energy sources can help. With the knowledge we posses, there are no excuses for not trying to do better. There are many small changes you can make that could make a big difference in the long run. You should explore all of the many things you can do at home to help conserve the waste you are making.
